What is an FHP and what do they do?
A Foot Health Professional (sometimes practitioner is used) is a private provider of foot care. They generally do the routine work necessary to maintain the health of the foot, which may include but is not limited to:-
Nail trimming and correction
Skin conditions of the foot
Heel pain associated with Plantar fasciitis
Corns and callus
Verrucae
Blisters
Athletes foot
Management of ingrowing toenails (without invasive surgery)
Diabetic foot assessment
Monitoring and treatment of fungal infections
General advice and guidance on foot care and footwear
It should be noted this is not an exhaustive list, it is also impractical to list every specific condition or dysfunction. If you present with something out of the scope of practice, we will refer you via your GP or to a local Podiatrist for appropriate treatment.
Safety
The Foot Health Professional(s) at Joint Route to Health are registered with the British Association of Foot Health Professionals and a member of the Open College of Foot Health Professionals. This ensures they are up to date with current best practice and fully insured.
All instruments used are sterilised in an autoclave, with a fresh set used for every patient and all blades are sterile single use items. Your skin is also sterilised before and after treatment. All of this ensures the minimum risk of infection/cross infection and especially the safe treatment of high risk feet (E.G. Diabetics, Rheumatics, immune compromised etc.).
