WEST END STEAM 1

A PORTFOLIO OF STEAM LOCOMOTIVES PHOTOGRAPHED AT THE WEST END OF THE NEW UNION STATION

C-13-b Class 4-4-0 Number 1791 was built by New Haven Shops in 1880 and retired two years after it was photographed on October 22, 1913.

C-2 Class 1697 was built by the Rhode Island Locomotive Works in 1887 as the "J.W.Miller" for the New York, Providence & Boston and retired in 1924. Photographed in 1913. The locomotive is notable because it once had trailing wheels making it a 4-4-2 type.

Number 1747 is entering the station from the west in October 1916. The C-21 Class 4-4-0 was built by Rogers in 1887 as Housatonic Railroad 25 and retired in 1919.

D-1-b Class 1823 was built by South Boston Shops in 1897 and retired in 1919.

C-2 Class 1665 ex Old Colony 852 built by the Manchester Locomotive Works in 1893 and retired in 1922.

Notice the man in front of the driving wheel lubricating the valve gear inside the frame.

A-3 Class 1206 was built by the Rhode Island Locomotive Works in 1902.

A-3 Class 1213 was built by Schenectady in 1900. It was photographed with an express refrigerator car on September 6, 1920.

G-3 Class 4-6-0 966 was built by the Rhode Island Locomotive Works in 1904 primarily for freight service but it is equipped with steam and signal hoses for passenger service.

G-4-a Class 4-6-0 Number 801 was built by Baldwin in 1904 and was photographed October 22, 1913.

G-4-a Class 4-6-0 821 was built by Baldwin in 1905. It has probably just uncoupled from a local.
