In the mid 1970’s, Iowa Electric Light and Power filed a double digit rate increase with the Federal Power Commission (known today as the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission or FERC). This rate increase would have severely impacted all municipal wholesale customers of Iowa Electric. Consequently, many of these communities joined forces to form a coalition which intervened in the massive rate case. In the end, they were successful and thus began the Resale Power Group of Iowa. Although in those days, the organization was referred to as the Iowa Defense Group due to its focus as an advocacy group for Iowa's municipal utilities.
The primary focus of the Resale Power Group of Iowa shall be to negotiate the lowest cost power supply while maintaining the quality, dependability, and support services required by our members.
