Back in the early 80's we were fishermen, making our living from wholesaling our catch to merchants but with ever decreasing fish stocks we found the need to process our catch and sell it directly to the public or to other small food outlets. In 1987 we opened a small shop and over the years have built a strong customer base. Of course,it is not possible to catch everything our customers require and we also buy directly from the Grimsby Auction Market and where possible from other local boats.
Our products
Crabs are amazingly popular and every single one is caught in local waters and then boiled and dressed by ourselves. Lobsters are also caught in by-catch. In the winter and spring we catch cod and whiting, leading onto skate in the summer. All our fish and shellfish which is taken from local waters is caught using longlines or pots, undeniably the most sustainable and environmentally friendly methods of fishing. Anything undersize is returned to the water strong and alive and the seabed is little more than touched by the gear.
We stock a large variety of other fish and shellfish, both fresh and frozen, according to demand. We also have a small smokery and produce several cold smoked products. Smoked salmon is popular during the summer and at christmas but the big all year round seller is smoked haddock. Smoked with hardwood sawdust after minimal brining time, the result is a wonderfully sweet, mellow and delicate flavour.
