His Majesty's Corps of Engineers was created in July 2010 to address the serious issue of seasonal flooding on the southern border of Calsahara. The Corps is technically a military unit, however, it does not participate in offensive combat operations.
The primary mission of the Corps of Engineers is to defend against seasonal floodwaters from nearby Soda Lake.
THE MARSHES
Despite being an arid grassland, Calsahara lies in a floodplain which is subject to seasonal flooding from the overflow of Soda Lake. As a result of this seasonal flooding, the land on the southern border of Calsahara becomes a watery salt marsh once or twice a year.
Marshes are defined as wetlands frequently or continually inundated with water, characterized by emergent soft-stemmed vegetation adapted to saturated soil conditions. There are many different kinds of marshes, ranging from the prairie potholes to the Everglades, coastal to inland, freshwater to saltwater. All types receive most of their water from surface water, and many marshes are also fed by groundwater.
These maps show Calsahara's location in relation to Soda Lake, and demonstrate the maximum extent of flooding conditions.
