Frequently Asked Questions
Can my daughter be on the same team as her friend?
Sorry, we cannot promise to group together friends! We place teams based on age, positional needs, skill, and overall numbers. We can promise your team will grow and have fun together throughout the season!
What are the age groupings?
See this link, please! You must try out with your age group!
What can players expect at tryouts?
Players will be put through drills that assess their serving, passing, setting, attacking and ball control skills. Coaches will also be looking for players that are willing to learn and try new things, communicate, and are ready to work hard to improve their volleyball skills. Parents/guardians are not permitted in the gym (or looking into the gym) during tryouts or practice sessions. We will give each player a sticker to wear with their tryout # on it when they check in. We will post results (with tryout #s, not names) to our website on the evening on November 6, 2022. If you register on the form before October 15, 2022, your tryout fee is $15. Registrations after October 15, 2022 are $25. You can bring cash or a check written out to Roseville JO Volleyball. Registration payments should be brought to tryouts and given to a coach when your player checks in.
What type of environment does RVB provide?
Roseville Volleyball's mission is to create a positive learning environment for all. This includes treating all players, coaches, officials, and other fans with respect. If this standard is not met by a player and or guardians it could result in removal from the program.
What does the season for players on the 11s team(s) look like?
The purpose of the 11s team is to introduce club (JO) volleyball to players where they can learn and improve their skills in a fun and competitive environment.
For our 11s teams (players in 4th or 5th grade) the season will run from the beginning of December through March. The 11s team will have one practice on Sundays. There will be 4 playdates/tournaments for our 11s on the weekends.
What is a playdate?
Playdates are smaller versions of tournaments where you play the other teams in the assigned pool. Generally in club volleyball play dates, there are 4 teams, meaning 6 matches and each team plays 3 of the 6 matches in a 5-6 hour format. While two teams are playing, one team refs, and the other team has a break.
What does the season for players on the 12-14s teams look like?
For our 12-14s teams (players in 6th-8th grade), the season will run from December to April. Each team will get 2 practices a week (on average, but some weeks may be less due to gym availability). Teams will play in 6 tournament days throughout the season. There are generally 10 players on each team and 1-2 coaches.
What is the cost for the season? Are payment plans available?
The cost for the 11s team will be $350 for the 23-24 club season, as their season is shorter than the others and is meant to be an introduction to the world of club volleyball. Please note that this is an increase from the past due to the fact that our power league in the region is no longer running, so we will be enrolling in more playdates and tournaments.
The cost for the 12s and up teams will be $650 for the 23-24 club season. You can pay in full at our family meeting (date/time TBD) or you can pay for half on the meeting date and provide a post-dated check for 2/1/2023.
For families with multiple players in the program, please contact Sarah Van Petten and Madison Critchley at rosevillejovolleyball@gmail.com to make a special arrangement if needed.
What is included in the team fee?
For all teams, the team fee covers coaching costs, registration fees associated with JVA (our governing body), coaches, practices, equipment, team clothing, jerseys, and tournament registrations.
What days are practices on and where will they be?
The 11s will practice on Sundays (a 2 hour practice between 12-8pm.) The current plan for 12-14s is to have practices on Sundays (typically a 2 hour span between 12-8pm) and then Monday or Tuesday evenings. There may be some weeks where a second practice isn't an option due to gym availability.
All practices are at Roseville Area High School.
On what days are tournaments held? What is the schedule like?
Tournament schedules will be posted once teams are formed. We like to get an idea of what level the team is at to find suitable tournaments for the team. Tournaments are on Saturdays or Sundays. Coaches receive the exact tournament schedule usually by the Tuesday/Wednesday of the week of the tournament and will email this schedule out to their teams ASAP.
Do you have any boys teams?
We do not! Please go here for suggestions: https://www.mnboyshighschoolvolleyball.com/clubseason. (The link is live at the time of publication.) Roseville Area High School does offer a boys club team for grades 7-12 (must attend Parkview, RAMS, RAHS, or FAHS) that runs from March-June. Christian Karalunas is the head coach and Madison Critchley is the assistant coach: christian.karalunas@gmail.com and madisoncritchley@gmail.com. Information about the boys season will be posted in February to @rosevillevb on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
