Abstract
Personal experience with 83 pectoralis major island myocutaneous flaps in 81 patients were reviewed. All the flaps used in reconstructing head and neck defects that resulted from extirpation of advanced malignancy. For those patients without flap necrosis, reconstruction using this flap was performed in one stage. Ten of 83 flaps either partially or completely failed, attributable to technical factors. With proper and meticulous attention to detail, the pectoralis major myocutaneous flap can provide a useful and reliable method for primary reconstruction of various head and neck defects.
