ROSA HEAVY HITTERS - 2020/2021

The ROSA Heavy Hitters program is again being offered for free. This program is for ROSA players of all ages and is a great opportunity for players to develop their hitting over the off-season. This program offers our players access to open hitting stations a couple nights a week. The hitting stations are self led and and range from bunting, pitching machines and several batting tee stations. A representative from ROSA will be present at each session and will be more than happy to help you learn new station drills along the way.

IMPORTANT:

  • All girls and parents that come to the ROSA winter facility MUST bring a change of shoes in order to keep the floors dry and clean. Please change your shoes in the front room before entering the practice area.

  • Do not drop off your child - this is not a clinic, but rather an opportunity for players to work on their hitting with a parent or a responsible adult.

  • The facility currently has a 15 person limit in order to maintain required social distancing. Based on this, entrance into heavy hitters will be on a first come first serve basis. Once 15 individuals are in the facility, no one else will be let in until someone leaves.

  • All individuals must wear masks the entire time they are in the facility.

MONDAY / TUESDAY NIGHTS

To offer more opportunity for players to attend heavy hitters, we are adding the following options for this year.

  • Rotating between Monday and Tuesday nights during the week, allowing options where player schedules conflict with a specific night.

  • Offering 30 minutes of heavy hitters dedicated to our younger players, where they can feel more comfortable and less intimidated by the older hitters.

Pitching Surgery :

This is a four-week program to help identify mechanical issues that may be standing in the way of your progress as a pitcher. We will evaluate your pitching motion and suggest drills to support your growth and development. Sessions will be one hour in length for four consecutive weeks.

    • TIME 6:45 - 7:45

Grips and Spins:

Pitchers who have accumulated at least three years of competitive experience and have command of the fastball and changeup may be interested in exploring breaking pitches, namely the drop, rise, curve, and screwball. During this four-week program, we will commit one day each to the drop and rise, an additional day to the curve and screwball, and a final day to reviewing all the breaking pitches and the changeup. Please understand that you will not have command of any of these pitches after the four weeks of this program, but you will have knowledge of various ways to hold the ball and the proper spin that must be achieved to cause the ball to break in the proper direction.

  • Dates of the sessions are: January 10, 17, 24 (3:00 / 4:15) & Tuesday January 26 (5:30 / 6:45)

    • Time: 3:00 PM COMPLETE

We will begin with how to hold the ball and progress through a series of drills to the full pitching motion. You won’t be a “pitcher" at the end of the four weeks, but you will have a basic understanding of what you need to do to become one. This program is aimed at 8U, 10U, and possibly 12U players who have no previous pitching experience.
