Roger David Aus

Roger David Aus is an ordained pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. He pursued English and German studies at St. Olaf College, taught English for a year at a Gymnasium near Heidelberg, Germany, and then studied theology at Harvard Divinity School and Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. He did his internship at the English-speaking Lutheran Congregation in Geneva, Switzerland, simultaneously serving fulltime as a research assistant in the Department of Theology of the Lutheran World Federation.

After completing his 1971 Yale dissertation, Comfort in Judgment: The Use of Day of the Lord and Theophany Traditions in Second Thessalonians 1, he assumed German-speaking pastorates in Berlin, two in the district of Neukölln and one in Reinickendorf. He retired from the parish ministry in 2003, although he continued to do substitute work both in German and in English.

Roger David Aus is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature, the Society of New Testament Studies, and the Gesellschaft fűr Wissenschaftliche Theologie. His study of New Testament topics always reflects his great interest in, and deep appreciation of, the Jewish roots of the Christian faith.

He has authored articles in the Journal of Biblical Literature, Novum Testamentum, the Zeitschrift fűr die neutestamentliche Wissenschaft, the Journal of the Jesus Movement in its Jewish Setting, the Review of Rabbinic Judaism, and a number of Festschriften. His most recent studies are:
