Advancement provides a satisfying means of recognizing kids for their progress. The children have a ladder to climb, with recognition at each step. Presenting awards to kids in meaningful ceremonies to recognize their accomplishments is a principle of advancement. Advancement is not competition among children. Each Cub Scout is encouraged to advance steadily and purposefully, setting their own goals with guidance from their family and leaders. Measurement for satisfying requirements is “Do Your Best,” and that level can be different for each child.
- Advancement Trails
- The Lion Trail - A child who is 6 years old or in Kindergarten is a Lion, and their adventures are found in the Lion Handbook.
- The Bobcat Trail - The first rank a cub scout must earn from Tiger through Arrow of Light. Found in the front of every Handbook.
- The Tiger Trail - A child who is 7 years old or is in the first grade is a Tiger, and their adventures are found in the Tiger Handbook.
- The Wolf Trail - A child who is 8 years old or is in the second grade is a Wolf, and their adventures are found in the Wolf Handbook.
- The Bear Trail - A child who is 9 years old or is in the third grade is a Bear, and their adventures are found in the Bear Handbook.
- Webelos Trail - A child who is 10 or is in the fourth grade is a Webelos Scout, and their adventures are found in the Webelos Handbook.
- Arrow of Light Trail - A child who is 11 or is in the fifth grade is a Webelos II Scout, and their adventures are found in the Webelos Handbook.
