Frequently Asked Questions

Question: How old does my child have to be before he/she can join 4-H?

Answer: Members must be at least five years old.

Question: What kinds of activities are available for youth to join within the club?

Answer: Rockland 4-H has several "projects" for youth to join each year. Projects are led by an adult volunteer and often assisted by youth Teen and Junior leaders who are building planning, communication and teamwork skills along the way.

Question: How can parents of youth become involved in 4-H?

Answer: 4-H is volunteer driven. Its existence depends heavily on adult volunteers. Adult volunteers lead projects, coordinate fund raisers, manage paperwork, chaperone 4-H events where youth are present, manage activities such as t-shirt tie dying, 4-H fair, coordinate our annual "Adopt a Family" activity over the holiday season - to list a few. Some parents "job share" with others which distributes the work and the reduces the time commitment. Additional opportunities within 4-H exist at the county, sectional, state and national levels. There is no shortage of chances to participate and contribute to 4-H as an adult volunteer! And, it's a great way to remain in step with your kids as they grow up in an organization focused on teaching life skills and giving them chances to apply them all year long.
