Artist Bio
I’ve been balancing rocks for about twenty years, and have focused recently on developing it as an art form. I travel to Lake Superior several times a year to create and photograph sculptures like these. In the summer, I hone my skills by performing for the public at Lake Harriet near the concession stand. Most of the works you see here were made along the North Shore of Lake Superior, where uncrowded beaches provide ideal raw materials as well as an uncluttered backdrop.
I have held presentations and demonstrations at area schools, churches, and conferences, and taught classes on the art of stone balance at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, Sugarloaf Cove Scientific and Natural Area, and Art in Bayfront Park in Duluth.
When I'm not balancing rocks, I am a database administrator for a major airline. I live in the Twin Cities with my sweet and patient wife Sheryl. We have three grown children, all of whom give us a lot of pride.
My Work
My photographic work is available directly from me, and also through the Redbubble web site: http://www.redbubble.com/people/rockbalancer/portfolio
I am interested in working with galleries and other public venues to exhibit my photographs or sculptures. Please contact me if you have or know of such opportunities.
I can also hold workshops to teach the art form to small groups.
An artist is somebody who produces things that people don't need to have.
