Field Work

In the context of my research project on the pass-through of cotton world market prices to rural labor markets in Tajikistan, I organized a field research stay in Tajikistan in March and November 2014 (with kind financial support from the German Academic Exchange Service and the Munich University Society).

To gain further insights into the institutional structure of the Tajik cotton sector and rural labor markets in Tajikistan, I conducted 57 interviews with national and local authorities, farmers, managers of big farms and cotton gins, cotton traders as well as officials from International Organizations.

Moreover, I established contacts with the Tajik Ministry of Agriculture and the Statistical Agency of Tajikistan, International Organizations and the German Federal Enterprise for International Cooperation (GIZ) that allowed me to obtain valuable micro data sets and agricultural statistics used for the empirical strategy in my research paper.
