Baxter's Indexes: Essex Marriage & Burial Index

I am the custodian of this important resource, compiled by Jack Baxter, through decades of meticulous work. Providing almost complete coverage for Essex parishes, for the periods covered, this index is invaluable in discovering elusive marriages and burials.

I make full use of this index when building clients’ family trees.

Marriages 1754-1851 - covers all Essex parishes to dovetail with Boyd’s Marriage Index. Boyd’s Index coverage for Essex is good up to 1754, but sparse beyond this date. Baxter’s Index covers for Essex what Boyd’s does not. Also Baxter's index covers some parishes pre-1754 where the parish is not covered by Boyd’s Index.

Burials 1813-1865 - more or less complete coverage for Essex. Ages are not shown in the national death indexes until after 1865, making locating the actual burial in the period 1837-1865 particularly useful. Being able to identify the parish and age of the deceased from the burial index, avoids unnecessary ordering of death certificates for the wrong person.

I will also give quotes for blanket searches, lists for a specific surname etc.
