Brief Professional Biography of Meyer Katzper

Meyer Katzper is now retired from paid positions but actively explores areas of interest to himself. Some of these interests are indicated on the other pages of this web site.

Meyer Katzper was an operations research analyst and modeler for the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for over twenty years. He carried out modeling, simulation and data analysis. He created and used system dynamics methodology to study a wide variety of problems. In addition to policy oriented models, he used pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic and physiologically oriented models in the analysis of drug data. Analysis was designed to foster a mechanistic based understanding of pharmacologic effects to assess the safety and efficacy of drugs. Visual model formulation and data exploration were used to enhance communication.

Previously Dr. Katzper was an independent researcher who applied quantitative techniques and carried out critical analyses in a broad range of areas. Government clients included the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Office of Technology Assessment (OTA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Energy (DOE). Models with planning and regulatory implications were critically reviewed, applied, or created to meet client needs.

Among his earlier activities, he was instrumental in creating a Computer Science undergraduate department at the State University of NY (SUNY) Plattsburgh. This department was one of the first under-graduate computer science departments in the country. He was also a Senior Research Scientist with the National Biomedical Research Foundation.

For many years he co-chaired the Simulation in the Health Sciences Conference.

His master and doctoral theses were Radiative Corrections to Neutron Beta Decay and Correlation among Atomic Electrons.
