Who are the Patent Agents or Attorneys ?

Patent Attorneys (named in India as Patent Agents) are the specialist lawyers or advisors in the field of patents and relevant intellectual property laws or rights. Such attorneys work in government, semi-government, private intellectual property law firms, corporate world and also as in-house advisors for industrial or research organizations, or establish their own consultancy services.

The day-to-day activities of a patent agent involves (i) drafting of patent specifications, (ii) making patent application, (iii) following up the Government’s patent office, (iv) answering to the objections raised, if any raised; (v) representing the client at hearings, if any, (vi) filing opposition proceedings or defending an application against an opposition, and (vii) all other technical issues that might have arisen during and after a patent application or grant, and its management, etc.

The Indian Patent Act 1970 (as amended from time to time) has prescribed the qualifications, a high standard of efficiency and professional integrity for persons practising as Patent Agents or Attorneys. Only persons who are registered under the Patent Act are allowed to practise as Patent Agents or Attorneys in India.

GOVERNMENT’S PATENT AGENT EXAM PATTERN

Blended (classroom based + distance mode) Training Programme in Patent Drafting, Patent Act and Procedure

s Eligibility for admission: Any graduate or Degree holders in  Science, Pharmacy, Management, Engineering or Relevant    Technologies

s Duration: 90 days (October 2015 to January, 2016)

s Fees/donation: INR 20,000 (Twenty Thousand rupees only)

sThis includes lodging, boarding, study material and certificate

s There will be a discount of 25% for students and 50% 

  discount to students from drought hit areas (and 

  of unprivileged category).

SYLLABUS

1. Introduction to Intellectual Property rights.

2. The Patent Act and Rules.

3. Patent Specification Drafting and other documents & 

    Interpretation.

                                                                                             How will this 90 d Training Programme be conducted ?

Part-I: Immediately after the admission, the institute will provide all the students or delegates with the study materials covering the complete syllabus. 

This shall happen within the first seven days (15 days if you live abroad) from the date of fees deposit.

Part-II: Intensive Class Room Training

Face-to-Face intensive training for 30 hours

Training Venue: Pune (Maharashtra)

Please choose one venue and let us know within the first 15 days after your admission.

Part-III: Assignment

The institute will send your few questions to solve and reply us by answering them (by speed-post) within 30 days from the receipt of our question papers. This is mandatory to get certificate from the IIP.

Part-IV: Solving Previous Years’ Question Papers from the Indian Government’s Patent Agent Examination

Our faculty and trainers will help you solve previous years’ question papers 1 day

Examination under Invigilation 1 day

Part-II + Part-IV: 6 days

[1]. Download the Registration Form by clicking the downward arrow below.

[2]. Fill in your details.

[3]. Please pay your fees by internet banking or DEBIT CARD online. Or else, go to the nearest State Bank of India (SBI) and deposit the required amount in the bank account of the Razak Institution of Skills, Education and Research (by giving the bank our bank account number and the IFSC). Keep the bank receipt as your proof. Please avoid sending anything by surface mail or post.

[4]. Return the registration form along with details of your payment (when and where you have deposited fees) to RISER or the IIP Course Co-ordinator's e-mail.

[5]. Please wait for 24 hours; you will get further advice from the RISER or IIP.

[6]. Do not forget to paste your scanned photoraph on the registration form.

[7]. Write your full name (as you wish on your certificate)

Candidates should apply to the Controller of Patents paying the prescribed fee for the registration to appear the Patent Agent Exam as per the Indian Patents (Amendament) Rules, 2014.

INSTITUTE OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY (IIP) offers CERTIFICATE COURSE IN PATENT DRAFTING, PATENT ACT AND PROCEDURE. This course will prepared delegates or students for the Government's Patent Agent Examination. The Institute of Intellectual Property (IIP) will inform students/delegates the upcoming examination schedule as (will be) indicated by Government notification.

COURSE CERTIFICATE BY IIP:

Institute of Intellectual Property (IIP) will award the students 

a separate certificate of training entitled, “Certificate 

Course in Patent Drafting, Patent Act and 

Procedure.” This course is of duration of 90 days with 

intensive face-to-face professional training of 30 hours in 

the patent drafting, Indian patent act and the procedure.

Placement Assistance: The institute can provide  

placement to those who successfully passed the Patent 

Agent Examination Conducted by the Government
