The first round of the 11th Annual Riggs Open Golf Tournament was held at Greenhaven Golf Club . The weather was perfect - 73 degrees, low humidity, and mostly sunny! Two-time champ Bob Bush jumped out to the early lead with an opening round 76. Not far behind were defending champ Mike Flom, and John Bevans - who both recorded 82. This was the first ever Riggs Open with 3 Riggs - Pete Riggs played in his very first Riggs Open. Kristina Riggs arrived the night before from Grand Lake, Colorado to again help run the two-day event, and camcord the action.
The final round was held at beautiful Stonebrooke Golf Club . It was another perfect day, with temperatures in the mid 70's, and again low humidity. The final group consisted of: Bob Bush , Mike Flom , and John Bevans. The pace was set early by two-time champion Mark Patterson playing well in the first group off. Mike Flom was in the lead at the turn, but came up short in his bid for a second Riggs Open title. Patterson shot a career round 76, and came from wat off the pack to win the 1994 Riggs Open! Mark trailed the leader Bob Bush by 10 shots when the day began, but with his blistering round he accomplished the greatest comeback in Riggs Open history - and finished at 7 under his handicap! It was Mark's third Riggs Open Championship! Finishing in a tie for 2nd was Bob Bush (-4) and Dan Bradley (-4). Pete Riggs (-2), and Mike Flom (-2) finished in a tie for 4th. 1994 marked the first year that the champion was awarded the Riggs Championship Trophy. The "Riggs Cup" now has the names of the winners of the first 11 Riggs Open Tournaments inscribed on it, and has room for over sixty years of names.
