Elementary Level

Dear Parents and Students,

Students and parents often ask about books suitable for summer reading. To respond to that request, we have compiled a list of titles especially chosen for that purpose. The list is reviewed and updated each spring to incorporate a wide range – from classics to fantasy. Grade level allocations are intended as the loosest of guides. Many children read considerably above any grade demarcation and also dip, with real pleasure, into books they may have missed along the way. Books are written for people, not age levels. This list is a starting point. Look for other titles by authors on the list. There are many sources for summer reading titles. Librarians in public libraries are a mine rich in ideas. Paperbacks abound in stores and are easy to exchange with friends. While at camp or on vacation, consider downloading some wonderful books on a Nook or Kindle. Summer months are times of great physical activity for everyone, but all of us should not forget to plan quiet times during the day. What better lure than a good book!

Happy Reading!
