Linda Marie (Reynolds) Cole (1946-2012)

Linda Marie Reynolds Cole went on to her next great adventure early in the morning of March 20th, 2012. Linda was a registered nurse who later perfected techniques in healing that benefited her friends around the world. Linda was literally the best on the planet at eliminating fears, phobias and pain. She was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on January 3, 1946. Her father was a career military officer, and Linda attended many different schools. While raising two children, she worked full time while completing her education, and she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UTA. She then became a head nurse in labor and delivery. Linda married George on July 18, 1981, and they grew together as they developed their business and professional life. Throughout her life, she worked very hard to excel in whatever she was doing. Linda became an avid golfer, and she had a perfect swing. She became an accomplished instrument pilot, and she once piloted a twin-engine airplane across 600 miles of water from Jamaica to Aruba. In 2003, an engine fire caused a forced landing in which she sustained a spinal cord injury. After recovery from the surgery, she continued her schedule using a walker, canes, a scooter, or whatever it took to get there. She was very active in the organized associations of their profession, and she served as president of the Advocates for the American Osteopathic Association in 2007-2008. Linda and George enjoyed cruising with Princess, and on 35 cruises, they went almost around the world. Their home is decorated with memorabilia of the many trips to far lands. Her greatest love was her family, and the family support system was at its best in the last few months.

Dr. Charles "Sandy" Sowell Sandford III  (1946-2024)

Dr. Charles Sowell Sanford, III

“Sandy”

February 2, 1946  ~  January 12, 2024

Charles Sowell Sanford, III was born February 2, 1946, to Helen Manner Sanford and Charles S. Sanford, Jr. in Dallas, Texas. He died January 12, 2024 at the age of 77, due to complications from surgery. Although we mourn his passing, we rejoice that he is in the presence of Our Lord.  He is pre-deceased by his father. He left behind his  mother, his loving wife Diane Farwell Hatchett Sanford, son, Scott Edward Sanford and wife Tiffany, daughter Lindsay Sanford Salazar and husband Matt, grandson Everett Salazar, sisters Judy Rabjohn and husband Pat, Linda Delgado and husband Danny, and special nephews and nieces.

Sandy loved the Lord and he and Diane were active in church their entire lives. They especially treasured their time at CenterPoint Baptist Church in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, where Sandy was a deacon. They most recently made Champion Forest Baptist Klein their church home.

Charles was affectionately known by friends and family as Sandy, Dad, Papa, Doc, and Honey. He spent most of his childhood in the Richland Hills area of Fort Worth, Texas, excelling in school and serving as president of his class at Richland High School. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed baseball, basketball, and football, playing on the Texas Tech football team his freshman year. After transferring to The University of Texas at Arlington, he graduated with honors in chemistry, where he met the love of his life, Diane. They married after Diane’s graduation from Tech in July 1970.

Sandy attended The University of Texas Health Science Center School of Dentistry, graduating in 1973. He served two years in the United States Army as a Captain in the Dental Corps at Ft. Mead, Maryland from 1973 to 1975.  Afterwards, Sandy practiced dentistry in Fort Worth for several years. Sandy and Diane’s son, Scott, was born in 1978. They returned to Houston where Sandy completed a Masters in Endodontics at The University of Texas Dental Branch. Their daughter, Lindsay, was born in 1982. He began his private practice of Endodontics in the north area of Houston and was soon joined by his good friend, Paul San Marco, D.D.S.  They practiced together until Sandy’s retirement at age 60.

An avid outdoorsman, Sandy enjoyed years of golfing, fishing, and hunting with friends and family. His beautiful yard expressed his skill and attention to gardening. He trained and hunted with his sweet Labrador retrievers. Diane and Sandy were happy travelers, making memories around the world as well as the U.S.  For seventeen years, they spent part of each year at their beloved Colorado mountain home in Pagosa Springs where their children and extended family joined them often.

The family appreciates all the wonderful people who supported them during this time. The many relationships made through Sandy’s professional career, his sporting activities, his personal friendships and his family made Sandy’s life full and meaningful. He was a loving son, husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend. A life well-lived.

Larry Earl Williams (1946-2023)

Larry Earl Williams passed away peacefully on November 3, 2023.

A son of the late Charles Williams and Genievive (Doyle) Williams was born on September 16, 1946, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Upon completion of his Ph.D. in Sociology in 1976, at Brigham Young University, Dr. Williams was hired as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Midwestern State University (MSU). He moved on up through the ranks at MSU being promoted to Associate Professor and receiving Tenure in 1981, and achieved promotion to Full Professor in 1986. Upon his arrival at MSU, he established a reputation as a rigorous teacher, yet caring and supportive of all his many students. He was widely known for his humor and creativity, not only in the classroom, but with his colleagues in the department and across the campus.

One of his favorite classes that he developed was Applied Sociology, which was required of all Sociology majors. Dr. Williams was always concerned with the ability of students to do well in their chosen fields and also to be well prepared for the challenges of life in general. Students to this day will recount the impact of that class on their lives and have kept their required journals for reference. Also, during this time at MSU, Dr. Williams was an active publisher in professional journals and made many presentations at professional meetings. He also held membership in numerous professional organizations and was an active participant in several community organizations. He was particularly proud of his work with Hospice of Wichita Falls, which was very much a part of the Death and Dying class he taught at MSU.

One of Dr. Williams' greatest accomplishments, and one for which he was the proudest and for which he is widely known and remembered, was his development of MSU's Study Abroad Program. This journey began in 1985, when he was first informed about a study abroad program in London offered through another university. He was intrigued by the possibilities for MSU, and in 1986, he began MSU's participation in this study abroad program in London with one class of six students. By 1989, MSU was the top participating school in this consortium. In 2004, Dr. Williams established MSU's own study abroad program apart from the original consortium. From that point on, Dr. Williams brought on several other universities as participants and developed study abroad opportunities not only in London but in France, Spain and Mexico. Dr Williams fought hard, particularly during some tough budget years, to keep the program affordable and to provide scholarships for student participants. By the time of his retirement from MSU in 2015, more than 1,000 students had participated in the Study Abroad Program, along with 75 faculty members from MSU and from MSU's consortium schools. In the summer of 2022, Dr. Williams was honored at a reception in London recognizing his outstanding leadership in developing, supporting and sustaining MSU's Study Abroad Program. In attendance were current and former student participants, faculty who taught in the program, as well as those interested in becoming a part of this program. Further, upon his retirement in 2015, Dr. Williams was awarded Emeritus Status by Midwestern State University's Board of Regents in recognition of service to the MSU community.

Larry was loved by many, but if one thing was certain, he loved his family with all his heart. Not only was he a family man, he was also known for his constant kind heartedness towards others, jokes that never seemed to get old, as well as his great sense of generosity and compassion. He enjoyed playing golf with his friends, spending time with family and loved to travel the world.

Larry always gave the best insight. Anything you wanted to talk about, he would always actively listen with genuine interest. You could always count on Larry to lend an ear and his favorite past time was "chatting up" everyone he met.

Along with his parents he was also preceded in death by his brother, Charles Williams.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gay Williams; son, Jason Axe and wife Belinda; his "best buddy boy" and grandson Braden J. Axe; and fur babies Sophie and Cinnamon.

A celebration of life will be held at a later time to be announced.

Donations can be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls.
