Welcome. This site is about the life and times of Richard Woodbury, from Devon in England, who was transported to Sydney as a convict in 1806. He and his growing family lived a full and active life on the Hawkesbury River in New South Wales. Richard was, at various times, a brewer, a farmer/grazier, a District Constable and a church office holder. He and his wife, Sarah, the free-born daughter of Matthew and Elizabeth Everingham, were parents to 11 children.
Richard Woodbury's experience gives an insight into the lives of convicts imprisoned in England and subsequently transported to New South Wales in the early 1800's.
The site is a compilation of material from many sources, developed to give a more complete picture of the challenges Richard Woodbury and his family faced in New South Wales. The main motivation for this site was to get the sequence of his life clear and to get a sense of the man and his family.
The story is a resource for the wider Woodbury family and provides a summary of much of the existing information about Richard Woodbury in one location.
See "Richard's Story" page in the sidebar.

Richard is my GGG-grandfather.
