Freshwater Fishing
Fishing small ponds on Cape Cod
There are thousands of lakes and ponds across the US which are very productive. I live on Cape Cod, and I know these ponds the best out of any. Growing up I fished in Eastham and Wellfleet ponds usually limiting my catch to sunfish, perch and an occasional large mouth bass. However as I grew older I realized the numerous small ponds that are virtually inaccessable and unfished for years. These ponds hold many large fish (0ver 5lbs) that haven't seen as many lures as the popular ponds. These small ponds can produce a great day of fishing with plastic baits. The catches in these ponds are mostly Large Mouth Bass and Pickerel. Both types of fish put up a great fight and are above average size. Even though plastic baits are the preferred method, during early morning and evenings the bass and pickerel will bite on topwater baits (Poppers, Jitter Bugs, Buzz Baits). These are some of the most exciting freshwater hookups I've ever had. There is nothing quite like seeing a 7 pound bass busting the surface after a slow chugging popper. I must admit I only hook up about 1/2 the hits I get, but to witness the stir of the water is a spectacle I just can't seem to get enough of. So if your coming to cape cod, instead of going to the large popular ponds, try going off the beaten path, you might be suprised what you may find.
