The following timeline was developed as a first reading course in algebraic geometry for graduate students of mathematics at Rice University.
(Links to notes, exercises.)
This reading course aims to present the reader with a formal introduction to the basics of algebraic geometry.
This reading course presupposes a formal study of algebra (groups, rings, fields) and commutative algebra. No previous exposure to algebraic geometry is required.
Working, verifying, and discussing exercises is crucial to acquiring understanding and expertise.
