Another Day
Another dollar? No thanks, I don’t think
so. Another meal? I really don’t need
one. Of the seven basic things to want,
I’m tired of six; I only like sugar.
Yes, please, I’ll take a little chocolate.
I’m not sure how it came to this; I was
ravening along like a grasshopper,
trying to devour the whole world, and then
I wasn’t. They say lack of desire brings
peace, but I haven’t found it so. To me,
it brings desire for something to desire.
I’ve looked at your pictures; they’re beautiful.
So are your children, your orchards, your lambs.
Believe me, I wish I could covet them.
