Reza C. Daniels is a Professor of Economics and Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences at Stellenbosch University. Prior to that he was a Professor of Economics at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and Director of the Southern Africa Labour & Development Research Unit (SALDRU) at UCT. He studied at the University of Auckland, the University of Michigan, and the University of Cape Town, where he obtained his Ph.D. in Economics. He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and regularly acts as an editor for both local and international journals. He is a member of the Economic Society of South Africa, the American Economic Association, the Econometric Society and the International Statistical Institute. In 2024, Reza was appointed a Member of the Standing Committee on Science for Reduction of Poverty & Inequality, by the Academy of Science of South Africa. Â Outside of academia, he has also consulted to the public and private sectors and to international development banks. He is a member of the Institute of Directors of South Africa and has held executive and non-executive positions in the manufacturing, consulting, non-profit and philanthropy sectors. He is also a fellow of the African Leadership Initiative and the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
