Scale Inhibitors
Phosphorus based scale inhbitors are quantified by determining the organophosphorus content of the sample. Organophosphorus is computed as the difference between the total phosphorus and the total inorganic phosphorus content of the sample. A conversion factor is required for the final computation of the scale inhibitor residual. The factor can be determined from a sample of the formulation being applied or from the theoretical phosphorus content of the formulation. The former method is preferred and it is also a good check on the manufacturing capabilities of the manufacturer.
