Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra antimagnetic watch equipped with the new calibre 8508. Instead of using an inner soft iron case Omega developed a movement based on antimagnetic components - replica Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra.

If a mechanical watch gets magnetised the magnetic field has a severe influence on the accuracy of it. Not only the escapement and its hairspring is harmed but also various other components are more and more charged with magnetic fields and they then start to attract or reject themselves. Anyway these forces influence the movement and it starts to loose its accuracy. If the watch is not protected, and most of our wristwatches are not, the watch needs to be demagnetised professionally from a watchmaker.

Some watches offer an inner soft iron case to protect the movement. It acts like a Faraday cage by diverting the magnetic fields. This kind of protecting is limited to around 1000 Gauss and then no longer works properly. So the movement itself is the appropriate source to be protected in the end. And this is exactly what Omega did.

Nine patents protect the various inventions of the new calibre 8508. The range is huge, to resume Omega told us today it is a combination of various antimagnetic materials used to build the new movement. Omega would not tell us all the details yet, since there are up to five different ways the job can be done.

In the moment 40 prototypes are being tested. In a couple of weeks Omega then will decide which movement will go into serial production. As we learned today from the specialists of Omega, Nivarox, Asulab and ETA several ways lead to the goal. But only the best one will be chosen, since Omega will guarantee the new absolute top quality standard with this new development.
