From historical research to the first sketch, my costumes
are designed to combine realism with practical, theatrical needs.
This was a sketch by Janet Arnold based on
a dress from the period on display at the
Gloucester Museum, c. 1818-23.
Next, I create a design sketch for the costume to be created.
Underpinnings are a crucial part of creating the correct silhouette for the period costume.
Since under-things will not be seen for this project this corrsett incorporates the use of some modern materials.
A pattern is created and the costume is completed.
Variations of the pattern are also created from the original design.
Our lovely pioneer sisters make beautiful models.
More costumes that I have created.
A tutor style gown (c. 1650) modeled by another
lovely pioneer sister.
A renaissance style gown. Notice how the use of
underpinnings give the correct silhouette to the
model's figure.
