Remote Sensing Techniques

There are two major techniques of remote sensing namely Active and Passive.

Active Remote Sensing

The instruments which have it own source of radiation are called Active Remote sensing instruments.

Examples : RADAR, LIDAR

Passive Remote Sensing

The instruments which do not have its own source but operate on the radiation from sun or stars are called passive sensors.

Examples : Radiometer
