6436 Sky Show

Designer: Harry Bradley modified by Larry Wood

Production Countries: USA Sky Show Fleetside & Hong Kong Sky Show Deora

Production Dates: '70 - '71

The Sky Show cars were seemingly given the same casting number, but are based on either the 1968 Custom Fleetside or Deora designed by Harry Bradley. It has been reported that Larry Wood was responsible for the casting modifications necessary for the Sky Show ramp attachments. These two castings were not available in blister pack, they were only available in the Sky Show and Flying Circus sets.

The Sky Show set included 6 launchable stunt planes, two each of three different varieties. When the Aero Launcher car passed a special trigger track piece, a rubber band would be released on the Aero Launcher, flinging the airplane into the air, while the car continued down the track. The trigger piece was meant to be placed before a rise in the track (via a trestle) to give the airplane a little more vertical boost when released.

The Flying Circus set included the 6 stunt planes of the Sky Show set, plus two Zopters. A Zopter is a helicopter with a ring around the blades. The Zopter was placed on a special track piece named a Zopter Port. To use the Zopter it was placed on the Zopter Port launch pin, and the rotor on the Zopter was wound up. This action tightens a spring loaded mechanism on the Zopter Port. A lever is present on the Zopter Port that extends onto the track way. When an Aero Launcher pushed the Zopter Port lever, the spring tension would be released and the Zopter rotor would begin to spin, thus lifting the Zopter into the air. A stunt plane and Zopter could each be launched on a single Aero Launcher run down the track.
