In Memory of our beloved leader, Jack Sandhaus, 1937 - 2024
Welcome to the website of Recovery of Brooklyn, built by the students of our group leader, Jack Sandhaus. Here, you will find an online list of Jack's spottings, as well as information about the Recovery method in general.
Jack spent over 50 years learning, living and preaching the Recovery method, and helping thousands of his students deal with problems from the mundane to the life-threatening.
The basis of the Recovery method is to understand the philosophy and ideas of Dr. Abraham Low, and to reiterate his teachings in short, pithy, yet powerful statements known as spottings.

In Memory of Jack Sandhaus (1937 - 2024)
Jack Sandhaus, of Borough Park, Brooklyn, New York, was 86 years young at his passing. A grateful member of Recovery, Inc. since 1969, for over 50 years he was a group leader.
Referred to as “Uncle Jack” by many, his 3 favorite spottings are:
"Symptoms are distressing, not dangerous."
"Be sympathetic, not sentimental."
"The body, mind and soul are a self-healing organism ... so smile (baby) at the temper you are producing!"
Jack trained in Cleveland under Marie B., and in New York City under Gertrude S., and was very grateful for their service and leadership. Recovery, Inc. helped Jack face, tolerate and endure both successes and failures in life, forgive himself and others, and get along better with other people.
Jack resided in Borough Park, Brooklyn, New York for over 40 years. He trained leaders and area leaders. During the last years of his life, calls would come in to his house 24/7 from all over the world, as they had for the last 50 years. He would roll over and ask, "Who's this?", and say, "5-minute phone call, Go!"
His funeral had more Recovery members in attendance than family, many joining on short notice via Zoom. As it will say on his tombstone, "The meeting goes on...”
