Raymond Arthur LaFoy was drafted. His birthday (October 17, 1894) this reflected #94 in the draft; this number was chosen As you can see, Ray registered June 5, 1917.

In WWI, there was an extremely large draft pool and each birthday over several years was a draft number.

These are pictures from a family photo album. Some of the pictures are very high quality and others not so much. Clearly, there were two cameras at work here.

According to family lore, his unit was trained on one searchlight, got to France and had to retrain as they were using another searchlight. The official history of the unit lists him as a private, but according to Aubrey LaFoy, his son, he advanced to a Wagoneer.

According to Aubrey, Ray was pretty close-lipped about his service. He was trained at Camp Dodge, Des Moines, Iowa. it was called a "cantonment."
