Research

My current research focuses mainly on the emerging technologies and methods for smart systems security (including the Internet of Things -- IoT). I am looking into the security through and of Digital Twins to address the problems of smart systems and infrastructure. I am also very interested in looking into eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) and Responsible AI (RAI).

In the recent past, my research focused on two emerging fields, Vehicular Ad hoc NETwork (VANET) and VANET-based clouds. For the last couple of decades, noteworthy results have been produced in VANET and many applications have been proposed in order to make the driving experience safer, efficient, and infotainment-rich. Nevertheless, despite the surge in VANET research, it has not made it to the deployment stage yet. The main reasons for such impeded momentum in VANET deployment are consumer satisfaction, deployment cost, security, and privacy issues. Therefore service providers and governments are reluctant to put their huge investments at stake; however, world-leading automobile manufacturers are testing their waters for this tempting technology.

Surprisingly, prior to deployment, VANET evolved to rather more applications and services-rich VANET-based clouds. VANET-based cloud is formed as a result of combining signature VANET with cloud computing. This way, vehicles will utilize their onboard computation, communication, and storage resources in a better way.

So far, I have worked on the following aspects:

(i)     Security and Privacy issues in VANET and VANET-based clouds

(ii)    Mitigating different kinds of attacks in VANET

(iii)   Dealing with the security and privacy challenges in stand-alone VANET-based clouds

(iv)   New services and applications in VANET-based clouds

(v)    Targeting the initial deployment stage of these two technologies

(vi)   Leveraging static and mobile intermediary infrastructure for these technologies

(vii)  Working on 'Anything-as-a-Service' model with a focus on security and privacy

(viii) Vehicular Social Networks (Security, Privacy, and Services)

(ix)    Named Data Networking (NDN)

(x)     Blockchain technologies for constrained environments

(xi)    5G-based VANET security

Besides, VANET and VANET-based clouds, the summary of my current research direction is given below:

Research Collaboration

If you are working on any of the above topics or any other topic that is related to security, privacy, and/or applied cryptography, I am open to collaboration. Drop me a few lines and I will try my level best to send you a prompt response.
