3. Always keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire.

Lafayette County 4-H Shooting Sports Program
Mission: We will practice and instruct youth in the safe handling and enjoyment of archery equipment and firearms whether they are enrolled in 4-H shooting sports or not.
Goals:
· Teach and practice the safe handling of firearms and archery equipment
· Teach sound fundamentals of shooting
· Encourage responsible and socially acceptable use of firearms and archery
equipment
· Provide opportunity for a variety of shooting experiences
· Provide opportunity to excel and compete
· Provide opportunity to enjoy a lifetime sport
Requirements of members:
· Enrolled as a 4-H member – 4-H member dues paid
· County shooting sports fee - varies according to discipline
· Provide own equipment and ammo - limited loaner equipment may be available
· Complete the safety requirement - 4-H 6 hour SS Safety Class
· Attend a minimum of 10 hours of project instruction/practice with Certified Instructor
· Demonstrate skill and knowledge by participating in the Lafayette County Shooting
Match - must complete the attendance requirement in order to participate in the county match
· Adults are encouraged to attend with the youth and participate as needed
Other Expectations:
· Exhibit willingness to learn
· Practice safety at all times
· Participate with a positive attitude
· Exhibit at the county fair
Age Divisions:
· Junior– ages 8-10
· Intermediate - ages 11-13
· Senior – ages 14-18
*Safety Training Pre-requisite
4-H members are required to complete a minimum of 6 hours of firearm and archery safety prior to beginning instruction in a shooting discipline. This requirement cannot be waived! Lafayette county 4-H volunteer instructors will conduct the 6-hour safety course. Please give attendance your highest priority. Two years of participation in the safety training is recommended for younger members (8-9) year olds. First year shooting members taking the safety training should enroll in project 740 Shooting Sports Safety, as well as their shooting project.
