Welcome to our Biophysics and Biomedical Sciences Laboratory

Laboratory mission

Biophysics and Biomedical Sciences Laboratory belong to the Ciencias Exactas y Tecnologías Department of Centro Universitario de los Lagos, Universidad de Guadalajara and the research team leader is Dr. José Luis González Solís.

The main goal of our group is to apply spectroscopic techniques to study materials, mainly of biological type for medical applications.

Our research group uses nanotechnology and Raman spectroscopy (SERS) in cancer research, increasing the possibilities of understanding the processes that give rise to cancer. It is my belief that the SERS technique will play a critical and unique role in turning that knowledge into clinically useful advances to detect the cancer in early stage. By doing so, we will change, for the better, the way we diagnose, treat, and ultimately prevent cancer.

Other diseases of great interest for Mexico, like leukemia, childhood leukemia, cervical cancer, dental fluorosis diabetes, and Alzheimer, are studied using serum, cells, and protein samples.

Our group also develops algorithms for the analysis of spectra (Raman and UV-VIS) such as Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA), and Super-Paramagnetic  Clustering (SPC).
