Aron Nimzowitsch (1886-1935) was one of the strongest players in the world during the 1920s and along with Reti one of the pioneers of the hyper-modern style of play.
Born in Riga, then part of the Tsarist Russian empire, he rose to prominence before the Great War. After the war he won a succession of tournament and challenged Capablanca for the World Title although he was unable to raise the necessary finance to proceed with the match. Nimzowitsch’s influence on opening theory is especially profound and a number of opening lines bear his name. However his most important legacy are the books, My System (1925) and Chess Praxis (1929) both regarded as classics of chess literature.
The following game will delight followers of his style.
