At one time this area was the beating heart of chess in the City of New York when it boasted a number of chess cafes and shops. Unfortunately these meeting places have been in decline for many years, undoubtedly accelerated by the advent of the internet chess.The cafe pictured here has featured in a number of film sets including Woody Allen playing Michael Murphy in a scene from the movie, "The Front" (1976).
