There is a tradition of chess playing in Dutch brown cafes. Since the demise of the Gambit in 2005, Schaakcafe Laurierboom has emerged as the pre-eminent such cafe in Amsterdam.It may be found at Laurierstraat 76 near the Anne Frank House in the Jordaan.
