Voices and Bellows – A concert for Macmillan Cancer Support
What do get when you combine the harmonious tones of a ladies choir with the unique sound of a piano accordion group? Well this April you get the Voices and Bellows concert.
Charvil Voices and Reading Accordion Group are combining for a charity concert in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support at Charvil Village Hall on Monday 30th April, starting at 8:00 pm. It will be an evening of light classical music, songs from the "Great American Songbook" and music from the shows.
Charvil Voices, directed by Suzanne Newman, is a choir founded in April 2008 for ladies over the age of 18. Their repertoire is varied and includes classical pieces, folk songs and spirituals, songs from the shows and popular songs. This year they are focussing on songs from the great American composers. They sing for fun, but aim to perform in two public concerts per year as well as competing in a music festival. They have sung in the BBC3 Choir of the Year competition and with Blake at the Anvil, Basingstoke. This year they are entering the Maidenhead Festival and the BBC3 Choir of the Year and have performed in a concert with Reading Male Voice Choir in March.
Reading Accordion Group, directed by Tony Banks, was founded 25 years ago and has entertained locally in concerts, festivals and retirement clubs and homes. Their repertoire ranges from light classical music to folk tunes, film and show tunes to rock & roll, classic piano accordion pieces to sing-alongs and popular songs. The piano accordion is versatile instrument; you've got a whole orchestra in a box. The sound is unique, come and enjoy it along with the melodious tones of a ladies choir, and you'll be supporting a very worthwhile cause as well.
Tickets are £5.00 and are available from Suzanne Newman (0118 934 0589) or Chris Easton (0118 934 0795). All profits go to Macmillan Cancer Support
