Rickard Tu'Oth was once a Baron in the Old Kingdom, under Tristan. He was born of noble birth to Gerald and Elizabeth Tu'Oth, and given all the best advantages that could be provided.
Just before the War of Chaos began, Rickard and a few of the other nobles began to see the madness of Tristan and greatly disagreed with his methods, especially those involving slaving and the assassination missions into what was then known as the Wildlands. It was supposed to be the policy of The Kingdom to essentially ignore everything that goes on beyond the Great Wall.
When it was discovered that Tristan was involved with the forces of pure chaos, Rickard knew something had to be done. This was all too much, even for Tristan.
When The First arose again, Rickard made it a point to contact him and offer his assistance. When the fighting started, Rickard joined his forces with those of The First and fought against the forces of chaos. For his assistance The First named him one of the Ten Kings and Rickard founded Otharia, named after his very long family line.
Unfortunately, once the war ended and things were more or less stabilized, Rickard fell back into old bad habits. He quickly forgot what it meant to be a king and began to live a very opulent lifestyle, ignoring the burden it placed on his people.
Rickard's end came at the hands of a Dire Boar that he and his son had underestimated. Both Rickard and his son died soon after the encounter from wounds sustained. Not wishing the throne and succumbed by grief, Rickard's eldest daughter abdicated and became a priestess at a temple of Pelor.
With no other surviving family, the throne passed to the youngest daughter, Ylsa, who has proven to be a very smart and quick-witted queen. Her rule has made Otharia thrive and relations with the other kingdoms has improved immensely.
Rumors abound that had Ylsa arranged for the deaths of her father and brother, though most find this patently ridiculous. After all, how could she have known that their horses would spook and they'd be left to continue on foot? Those are circumstances one simply cannot arrange, they just happen out of pure chance …
