The best way to get students to learn is to build relationships with them. I have 20 years of relationship building experience and this is an area in which I am strong. Those personal connections also fuel my soul and drive me to be a great teacher.
As a parent, I know that parents are the best resources teachers have. Parents know their children and can provide valuable insight into their motivations and their strengths. Those insights allow me to customize my lessons and help to make connections that drive life-long learning.
Students can often be the best teachers. I commonly use interactive slide shows that students can "play" like a choose your own adventure game. I include slides that have been developed by students in order to generate more interest and to create an authentic audience. Click on the picture above to see an example. Slides created by students include text that thank the students who contributed.
I spent 20 years collaborating with colleagues. I have continued to collaborate with my education colleagues. Above is a picture of students using the scientific method to learn how the Jeffers Petroglyphs were created. I have tied various social studies lessons to Science, English and even Math.
