Elijah Evans Edwards graduated from Indiana Asbury University in 1853 and served as chaplain in the 7th Minnesota Regiment during 1864 and 1865. He was given the title Captain of the Cavalry. In his diary, he shares many accounts of battle, bullets flying past his ears, what it is like to be fired upon and watching men advance into the thick of battle. Edwards illustrated many of his experiences with pen and ink sketches. In this image, Edwards describes a scene in which he was involved, the "Storming of Battery on Hillsboro Pike four miles from Nashville, Dec. 15th 1864 by 3rd Brigade 1st Division 16th A.C. Col Hill Brig. Death of Col. Hill." His sketches and images are featured throughout the exhibit.
