First: Stabilize the situation—If you are on campus call 607-255-1111 for the Cornell Police otherwise call 911
For the Dodge Grand Caravan (the mini-van) only also contact Fleet Services immediately, 607-255-3247, leave a message if it is after hours.
For all accidents, however minor, with or without apparent injuries or damage, the police need to be called and they determine whether a report needs to be written or not.
If a report is written, the driver will need to provide a copy of the information exchange form to the Risk Management office as part of the claim file (this comes from the officer on the scene).
Before any vehicles are moved take as many photos as possible – use your own cell camera – photograph all angles, all property involved and near by, the angle of the sun / street lights, etc – there is no such thing as too many pictures!
Use the Vehicle Accident Report form in the Vehicle Binder to gather information from the other party (if any) and details of the accident for the preliminary report.

If you do not reach anyone directly—Leave your name, your cell #, the date & time and a detailed message of the incident.
Get immediate medical aid if you are injured.
Keep calm and don't argue. Arguing can result in a lawsuit.
Make no statements concerning guilt or fault.
Never agree to make payments for the accident.
Discuss the accident only with police officers, representatives of Gallagher Bassett of NY, Inc. (the university's third party claims adjuster), or a university official. Do not speak to any other insurance company or claims department.
Record as much information as possible on all other parties to the accident. This information may include their insurance company, their name, license number, plate number, make, model, and year of car, how accident happened, witnesses (with addresses and phone numbers).

If damage is minor, you may be instructed to use the Wright Express credit card to obtain assistance or a wrecker.
If the vehicle is not drivable, your supervisor/advisor or another staff member will contact you with instructions.
