Education:

Richard started studying painting with the North Vancouver School Board about 40 years ago while working as a professional mechanical engineer.  Over the past fifteen years he has taken classes and workshops and painted en-plein-air with local artist instructors.   He admires the skills of the Old Masters and the Impressionists and in particular Joachim Sorrolla y Batista,  John Singer-Sargent, Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Anders Zorn.  He has studied their work and, as a learning exercise, has made copies of works by Raphael, Monet and Renoir.   He is interested in the effects of light and of expressive brushstrokes and endeavors to reflect this in his pieces.

Richard studied under the instruction principally of Marilyn Lemon, but also Mark Anthony Sekrijer, James Elton, Frankie Watt and Dene Croft.  He has studied art resources both in print and on the internet and attended workshops with  artists including Gaye Adams, Leanne Christie, Charlie Easton, and Dene Croft.
