Abstract
The global trend of publishing data on the Web is slowly transforming the Web of Documents to a Web of Data. A particular trend here is the publication of Open Data, so far mainly by public administrations under the label of Open Government Data. In this talk, coming from a semantic Web perspective and based on a concrete example use case from integrating open data about cities [1], we will raise the question on what is the right knowledge representation for the Data we find on the Web or for knowledge graphs in general. Moreover, I will report on some efforts within our research group to collect, integrate, and make Open Data more consumable and understandable, and improve its quality: we have built an experimental platform and archive for Open Data from (currently) over 260 open data portals worldwide [2] and aim at addressing the research question of building an open data knowledge graph [3]. Disclaimer: In the interest of time I will not be able to introduce all research on going in my group, but will provide some pointers and materials in the end.
I would be most interested in discussions around how these topics connect with data integration and applications of Linked Data in the Bioinformatics domain.
