A WILD Start... Teaching Students HOW to Think, Not WHAT to Think!

Project WILD is a wildlife-focused conservation education program for K-12 educators and their students presented by the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (AFWA). The goal of Project WILD is to assist learners of any age in developing awareness, knowledge, skills, and commitment to result in informed decisions, responsible behavior, and constructive action concerning wildlife and the environment on which all life depends.

Since launch in 1983, Project WILD is one of the most widely-used conservation and environmental education programs among educators of students in kindergarten through high school. There are now sponsoring agencies and organizations in almost every state and six countries around the world. Worldwide over 1,000,000 educators have been trained in Project WILD, reaching an estimated 38 million youth every year.

Project WILD and the family of guides are based on the premise that young people and educators have a vital interest in learning about our natural world. A national network of State and Regional sponsors ensures that Project WILD is available nationwide and is training educators in the many facets of the program.

The Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies represents North America's fish and wildlife agencies to advance sound, science-based management and conservation of fish and wildlife and their habitats in the public interest. AFWA supports its mission to provide environmental education programs and services that promote stewardship of the environment and further the capacity of learners to make informed decisions. AFWA administers leading environmental education programs dedicated to teaching educators and their students how to think, not what to think about the environment including Project WILD, Aquatic WILD, Growing Up WILD, Flying WILD, and specialized Guides: Proyecto WILD and Wild About Elk.
