Backup Software
Backup Rule
One of the timeless rules that can effectively address any failure scenario is called the 3-2-1 backup rule. This approach helps to answer two important questions: how many backup files should I have and where should I store them? The 3-2-1 backup rule means you should:
Have at least three copies of your data.
Store the copies on two different media.
Keep one backup copy offsite.

GFI BackUp
GFI Backup 2009 Home Edition
(Version used most by me)
Differential and Incremental Backup synchronization - will check for changes in existing files and also eliminate deleted files from the backup location
Setting up an origin and destination folder synchronization is more reliable for copying huge numbers of files from one location to another - the Windows Explorer copy feature can error-out, stopping the process and leaving you with partial folders and no way of knowing what else has yet to be copied; you can use the sync option just for the copy and then simply delete it as a task
Latest install used by me is attached below; newer version is available (add .exe to the filename after download).

From the site:
Incremental, differential and other backup types
GFI BackUp can either be configured to back up only new and changed files (incremental), or to delete those files from the current backup that no longer exist in the source location (differential).
GFI BackUp also provides a version control mechanism (stack backup) that allows you to keep multiple versions of a file in the archives.
Data integrity
By default, GFI BackUp carries out cyclic redundancy checks (CRC) on each file to ensure data integrity and to protect against accidental changes due to communication errors
