Ranjith Senaratne holds a PhD from University of Agriculture in Vienna. He is Professor and Chair of Crop Science at the University of Ruhuna, with over thirty five years of experience in university education. He has held a multitude of senior administrative positions, including Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Vice-Chancellor, University of Ruhuna, Chairman of the National Institute of Fisheries and Nautical Engineering (Ocean University) and Vice Chairman of the University Grants Commission, with over twenty years of administrative experience in higher education and vocational training. He has published over 100 research papers and articles related to agriculture and higher education. The University of Durham, UK conferred a doctoral degree (honoris causa) on him in recognition of his outstanding contribution to higher education and community development.
