I am so glad that you found the information page about my Psychology C1000 - Introduction to Psychology (fully online, asynchronous) classes at American River College (ARC).  I teach this class fully online every semester and continue to enjoy teaching students about the many facets of psychology in the distance education learning environment.  Keep reading to gain a better understanding about my class; I hope that after reading this page, you decide to join me and start your journey into the amazing world of psychology!

ARC Course Catalog Description

This course is an introduction to psychology, which is the study of the mind and behavior. Students focus on theories and concepts of biological, cognitive, developmental, environmental, social, and cultural influences; their applications; and their research foundations. This course was formerly known as PSYC 300 and is not open to students who have successfully completed PSYC 300, 480, or C1000H.

• demonstrate fundamental knowledge and comprehension of major concepts, theoretical perspectives, historical and cultural contexts, and empirical findings within the broad discipline of psychology. (CCN) *

• use a scientific approach (including critical and creative thinking) to understand individuals’ mind and behavior within psychological, biological, sociocultural, and ethnocultural contexts while recognizing that biases filter experiences. (CCN) *

• apply psychological theories, concepts, and values to individual, interpersonal, group, and societal issues to demonstrate awareness of self and others. (CCN) *

• draw logical and objective conclusions about the mind and behavior from evidence to show how psychology evaluates, modifies, and supports its claims and counters unsubstantiated statements, opinions or beliefs. (CCN) *

Registered Students

Saturday, August 22  is the first day of class. On this date registered students will have full access to the class website, which is in Canvas.  Failure to login and complete all of the required orientation activities and assignments in Week 1 may result in being dropped from the class.  

If you are registered but after completing the orientation decide that this is not the right class for you, then please officially drop the class via eServices so that I can enroll another student in your spot.

Waitlist Students

I will be distributing permission numbers via email one week before class starts; emails will be sent to your ARC gmail; instructions on how to access your ARC Gmail can be found here.  

If you do NOT receive an email from me by Monday, August 24 then unfortunately I was unable to add you.

• Last Day to Drop with a W on your transcript: November 17
