Welcome
Particle and Aerosol Research Laboratory (PeARL)
Prof. Venkataraman’s research focuses on the chemistry and physics of aerosol particles, as related to air quality, air pollution control and climate, and to engineering nanoparticles for drug delivery. The Venkataraman group performs laboratory, modelling and field studies related to environmental and biomedical aerosols. We undertake field survey and observational research to develop emission inventories for India, for past, present-day and future energy-economic activities, which are input to model simulations with general circulation (ECHAM-HAM) and regional climate models (WRF-Chem) to gain understanding of atmospheric processes, aerosol-induced alteration of cloud and monsoon rainfall and to provide decision support to climate change and air-quality assessment. We develop reactors and processes for aerosol engineering of drug-containing nanoparticles, through nano-droplet aerosol spray drying, for controlling their sizes, substructure, crystallinity and release rates, for drug and gene delivery applications.
“The Venkataraman group aims to use aerosol science to serve society, through a diversity of environmental to medical applications, with strong local relevance.”
