Every year Earth honors the Winter Solstice; the time when the long cold nights(darkness) of winter begin to give way to the full glory of a long summer day(light).
The seasons are created by the yearly precession of the earth around the sun. Because the earth is on a tilt, when our planet is on one side of the sun, it is tilted with the south closer to the sun, and vice versa.
Akin to our planet making this yearly journey around the the sun, so too is our solar system affected by a tilt and precession. Plato termed this cycle the 'Great Year', an event that only happens every approx. 26,000 years!
On December 21, 2012, those who were aware, celebrated the Great Year's Winter Solstice, the time when the darkness gives way to the light.
